There is a Pennsylvania Veterans Burial Card stating that Pierce (i.e., Percifer) served in the Mexican-American War. The cards are used to support the planting of a medallion at the tombstone of veterans. This appears to be a bureaucratic error, as Pierce was born seven years after the Mexican-American War ended. I’m currently looking for data to support the idea that his father served in the war. Mexican-American War service record data for enlisted ranks are not available online. Happily, the data may exist, since Pennsylvania organized many of these records in the late 1800s.
